A great adoption story Duncan, the tortoise

February 26th, 2020 Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Scales and Tails was happy to be able to help find Duncan a new home.  We used to be able to take in reptiles,  but due to lack of resources and foster homes we now help by listing on our petfinder site and screening applicants.

Stories like this really make us feel good.

We dropped Duncan off at his new forever home last weekend. Not only is the lovely lady and her son happy to have a new friend, but her father is building Duncan the tortoise (now renamed “Tree”) a hutch in the back yard at home and at her place of business. It’s a huge weight off our minds that he is going to a loving home where the family is coming together to care for him.
Thank you for your help,
Christina & Jeni

Iguana placement update!

September 4th, 2017 Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

FYI – I met with Haydee yesterday and delivered Fred. She’s got quite a lot of Iguana experience and will work with Fred to better socialize her and anticipates raising her cage free as she had her previous Iguana that died of old age after many many years. I’m sure Fred is in great hands and be very happy!
Thank you so much for the referral!

Adoption success

January 7th, 2015 Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Hi there Patty,

I just wanted to give you guys an update on Bizzy (now named Flopsy) who I adopted from you guys a couple of weeks ago. Please send this along to Dave with the pictures as I don’t have his email. She’s settling in wonderfully here. Her fur is starting to grow in thicker and shinier and she’s got a lot more energy. I think having her own space is helping. I’m going to try to make an appointment with the vet next week to give her a check-up and her distemper shot for the year. She’s a very sweet, very cuddly little girl. Also, I got her a much bigger cage. Just cuz. :) She now has a 24″ x 24″ x 48″ cage with hammocks, snuggle cubes, blankets, and TONS of toys all to herself.

Another successful match!

Dear Patty,

I apologize for the lengthy delay in contacting you. I made contact a couple of times. She is a very nice person. We drove over to the end of Rte. 80 where Re 26 begins in NJ. and met XX, her Mother ( who only speaks Spanish), and her son. They obviously really cared for Rango.

She asked me not to change his name – so, we have not. He knows his name and looks at you when you call him. He is a very friendly, polite iguana. He is undersized. You had said that his diet was questionable. We now have him on high -test dark greens, veggies, and fresh fruit (limited quantities). He is getting a lot of UV time and sufficient heat. We believe in free-roaming. He gets what we call ‘tank time ‘ (hangs in the aquarium that Celia sent along with him) between 8:30am – 12:00 noon. This gives him an opportunity to take a ‘poop’. He is then free to head up to the bedroom – where he sits in the window on a warming pad. I keep a humidifier running throughout the day. He then is brought down for the evening to hang out with us in the kitchen area on a warming pad and under a UV light on a tall cat stand. Celia sent along his blanket also (remnant of his previous life) I wash it once a week and he likes to curl up underneath it every night to sleep.

We found out that he has a terrible case of ‘pin worms’. Not the human kind – thank God. He is in the process of de-worming (multiple doses of Panacur. I never had this issue in any of my other iguanas, but have found out that this is a common parasite in green iguanas. We discovered this by examining his feces. He had not been gaining weight as expected. He is looking better already. We are very pleased with the adoption. Rango is getting used to his schedule and our house. It usually takes approx.. 6 months for them to acclimate very much like a cat.

XX said that we are now an extended family. Lol I am planning on sending her more text photos of him. She laughed when I told her that he has rules.

So, I guess I just want to say thank you for your efforts in helping the iguana and us. If I know of anyone looking for a ferret – I will point them in your direction.

Thank you again.

Hi Dave!
Its Alex. You know, Colin’s girlfriend? Haha well I just wanted to email you some pictures of Pippah and Meteor. I promised I would!!! :) they’re both doing really well and are happy as can be! Meteor isn’t even biting anymore! Pippah is extremely playful (and the instigator!) She definitely came out of her shell of being kind of timid and shy! They both love each other (as you can see in the pictures) and Colin and I love them infinitely! Hope to hear from you soon!
